Obesity: False Facts

Obesity: False Facts

Obesity arises in the situations where calories you take excess your requirement for a long time. Clearly this means too many calories entering the body. These calories need to go somewhere that is why our body keeps them as fat. Obesity is spreading throughout the world as a chronic disease but there are still myths about it. We gather some myths about obesity.

I AM LOSING WEIGHT SLOWLY AS MY METABOLISM IS SLOW

Metabolism differs accordingly person’s dietary habits, exercise activities and genetics. Years ago, your metabolism might be fast but if your dietary habits changed in a negative way and if you do not exercise it will be slow. Losing weight slowly is not about your metabolism, it is about your eating habits. If you exercise and gain more muscle, your metabolism will be faster. But in addition to this, the calorie intake should be less than calorie burn.

I AM NOT OVER WEIGHT, I HAVE BIG BONES

This might be partially true. Some people have bigger bones compared to others. But this has nothing to do with your weight.

CHILDHOOD OBESITY IS NOT PARENTS’ FAULT

If you have an overweight child, you cannot put the blame on her/him. As a parent you need to teach your child how to eat well, how to exercise and how to avoid foods that will lead to gain weight. At the same time, the food you prepare at home needs to be in accordance with these standards. Children copy adults’ behavior. If you are not eating healthy, your children will copy you.

FAST FOOD IS THE ONLY REASON FOR CHILDHOOD OBESITY

A single food category cannot be the only reason for obesity. The reason for obesity is too much calorie intake constantly. We have many chances to eat fast food or packaged food in today’s world. For this reason, it is not okay to accuse fast food for obesity.

OBESITY CANNOT BE PREVENTED

This sentence means that person is accepting the way it is and be happy to continue their life with obesity. Watching TV all day and sitting in front of the computer are calling obesity. So, it is not true that obesity cannot be prevented. On the contrary by eating well and exercising you can get rid of obesity on the beginning.
